5 Tips to De-Bloat This Summer from a Holistic Nutritionist

Updated: Aug 22

Welcome, my bloated-belly friends, I've been exactly where you are. I suffered with chronic bloating for YEARS, but since finding the root cause of my constant bloat, which was a candida infection and low HCl levels, and healing it I've been living and loving the bloat-free-belly life! I put together a collection of my BEST anti-bloat tips for you on your journey to finding the root cause.

Understanding the Root Causes of Bloating

Bloating is often a symptom of underlying issues such as poor digestion, food sensitivities, and imbalanced gut bacteria. Stress also plays a significant role in bloating, as our gut is sensitive to our emotions. When we're stressed, our digestion can slow down, leading to an uncomfortable buildup of gas and bloating. Additionally, unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity can exacerbate bloating, causing discomfort and distress.

The Importance of Stress Management for Bloating Relief

Stress is a silent but powerful contributor to bloating. Incorporating stress-relieving practices such as EFT tapping, nature exposure, or deep breathing exercises can reduce bloating. By calming the mind and body, we can support healthy digestion and prevent the dreaded bloat from ruining our summer vibes.

Gut Health and Its Role in Bloating

Our gut health is intricately linked to bloating. An imbalanced gut flora can lead to digestive issues, gas, and bloating. Incorporating gut-friendly foods like yogurt, kefir, and fermented vegetables can promote a healthy gut microbiome, reducing bloating and improving overall digestive function.

5 Practical Tips to De-Bloat This Summer

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Proper hydration is key to flushing out toxins and reducing bloating. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your digestive system running smoothly. BONUS: add 1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to your water before large meals to support stomach acid.

2. Eat Mindfully

Slow down, chew your food thoroughly, and savour each bite. Eating mindfully can prevent overeating and improve digestion, reducing the likelihood of bloating. Take 3 big, deep breaths with long exhales before eating (get into your 'rest + digest' state)

3. Include Digestive Enzyme-Rich Foods

Incorporate foods rich in digestive enzymes like papaya, pineapple, and kiwi to aid digestion and reduce bloating.

4. Reduce Inflammatory Foods

Cut back on inflammatory foods like processed sugars, refined carbohydrates, and fried foods, which can trigger bloating and digestive distress. These foods can worsen gut infection, linning-leaks or sensitivities causing the bloating.

5. Peppermint Oil

LAST RESORT- enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules are something I always keep in my purse to stop any painful, obvious bloating on a night out. Peppermint oils work great in a pinch but are a bandaid solution.
